About the Artist: The works of Dylan Bradway are a mixture of calm childlike tones with a touch of creepiness. Dylan’s style is both technical and messy with influences ranging from street art to child book illustration to graphic design. His subjects are stylized with droopy sloping eyes and surreal proportions which seem weird but familiar. Each figure has an expression which presents a soothing happiness that tends to combat their own oddities.

Growing up in Oklahoma City, Dylan was surrounded by a very creative family atmosphere which allowed him to find his passion for art at a young age. Throughout his schooling Dylan continued to build his creative talents in many art related studies that led to his BFA in Graphic Design obtained with honors in 2006. With a drive for supporting emerging artists he has built a close relationship with his local arts community and over the past few years has began to pursue national and international artistic connections. Dylan currently works as a graphic designer and art director in Oklahoma City while pursuing his passion for visual arts. His work has been shown in many exhibits in the United States including: Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. He recently took his work overseas for a solo exhibition in Hannover, Germany.

About The Opening: Trichology is pleased to invite our friends and clients to the salon for this event!  We always strive to use social media and networking to promote the Oklahoma City community, and this art opening is part a continued effort to bring local artists and businesses together.  Join us for art, wine, sushi & sake!

The Art of Coffee

August 6, 2009

Cafe Evoke Coffee ArtEarlier this week, I headed over to NW 16th street near downtown OKC. A very artsy, up and coming area. I have already visited Collected Thread and DNA Gallery last trip and enjoyed hearing their startup stories.  Somehow I missed Cafe Evoke until TWITTER.

I don’t know who followed who first, but in no time after starting the OKC Twitter page, the mutual follow of Nosey Parker, Cafe Evoke and Cafe Evoke_Janie started.  Now I have had Cafe Evoke coffee made especially for me from Jason.    Great gallery setting and hearing the startup story of Cafe Evoke was great.  Fabulous concept, modern and trendy vibe and best of all, a hard working entrepreneur who Nosey Parker will always support. Now, if I could just get a custom cup every morning.  Jason is like the cabana boy for coffee!  Have Cafe Evoke at any event and you can snap your fingers – coffee in hand.  And, not just any coffee, great coffee.  Here are more details I would love to share:

Cafe Evoke Catering is Oklahoma’s premier specialty coffee catering company serving the finest in Fair Trade and Organic espresso, single origin coffees, teas and other specialty beverages.  Located in the heart of OKC’s historic Plaza District, Cafe Evoke Catering serves the entire state of Oklahoma.

Along with great espresso drinks like mochas, lattes, and cappuccinos, Cafe Evoke Catering offers refreshing summer drinks including iced coffee, Italian soda, lemonade and ice tea.  All drinks are made to order* with all-natural gourmet flavors and all Evoke baristas go through an intensive training course, including work in Latte Art, to make sure that your beverage is delicious and beautiful!

Whether you are choosing to include alcohol at your reception or are looking for an alternative, Cafe Evoke Catering is your choice for a unique and memorable catering experience.  Don’t let bad coffee spoil a great reception!  For more information and photos, please visit Cafe Evoke Catering online at  www.CafeEvoke.com or contact Jason or Jenni Duncan to set up a private tasting at 1708 – Cafe Evoke Catering’s studio! BONEDUST COWGIRL. NOT BLING, IT’S THE REAL THING!

August 12, 2009

bonedustcoloredsmallblackOne of the best discoveries while “secret shopping”, Nosey Parker loves Bonedust Cowgirl.  You have no heart if you are not drawn to this story and fabulous product, custom made by two endearing, hardworking artists.  Out of hardship, countless trials, and a fierce determination to live, the Bone Dust Cowgirl was born.  A free-spirit with a little attitude, she’s got a huge heart filled with love.

The Bone Dust Cowgirl, just like their Bone Dust Gallery was forged from heartaches and grace.  The original BDC wears her heart on her sleeve and carries a four leaf clover for good luck.  A working gal, she wears braids, a bandana, and her favorite hat to shade her from the Oklahoma sun. Forgiven, her foot rests on a buffalo skull.  Precious stones are inlaid to form the Cross and reminds her of a rock-hard faith.  She is unique as every woman who wears the original BONEDUST COWGIRL brand.

James and Jayme are Bonedusters, Oklahoma born.  Established by their own dust bowl. They try and use re-cycled stuff to make our jewelry, home decor, clothing, paintings, or anything else we make.  Some of their Bone Dust  T-shirts are water dyed (earth friendly) on recycled military (used) t-shirts, from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Many have been shipped to the troops in Iraq – a very popular tshirt in that dust bowl.

The Definition of Retail Relationships? Cedarburg Square.

August 17, 2009

CedarburgSquare_2

A place where you will always be welcome is Cedarburg Square, located in the heart of old Bethany where you’ll find wonderful things for inside your home and inside your tummy. The unique and well-chosen furnishing will have you declaring a re-do for your home, and the wonderful accessories will instantly spruce your space, but it’s the gourmet delights that have me detouring from my grocery store; signature label strawberry preserves, mango salsa and pesto artichoke dip are a few of the tempting treats. Throw in a fragrant candle; choose a cheery new area rug and declare it a complete shopping trip. Cedarburg Square is also a great place to pick up a remarkable gift on your way to the party. Yes, gift wrapping is available for your gift-on-the-go.

Make plans to visit Stacey Carter the month of August and think fall! All new merchandise in the store is from June market and the store is decorated for fall!  Great back to school gifts for teachers too.  Stacey and her fab store is the epitome of what Nosey Parker likes to call “retail-relationships” – she has it down! You will be a customer and friend for life!  Check out Cedarburg Square at http://cedarburgsquare.com or on Twitter: cedarburgsquare.

HAVE YOU EVER BOUGHT AN “EVENT PIECE”?

September 7, 2009

bannerfans_3304288Nosey Parker loves costume jewelry. Signature pieces.  One of a kind.  Event Pieces.  She has found a fabulous group of women who are highly talented.  Just recently, they provided Nosey Parker with a beautiful piece to wear to a Polo Event Fundraiser. It will be the talk of the afternoon – not the hats, the one of a kind piece she has around her neck.

Stephanie, Diane and Sondra are quickly making a name for themselves as Silver Leaf Gems in Edmond, OK. They have established a following of jewelry lovers who buy their creations from the studio, arts festivals, and trunk shows around the state. Some of their current shows include Edmond Arts Festival, OCCC Arts Festival, North Park Art & Wine Show, Paseo Arts Festival, Nichols Hills Flaming Festival, Gaillardia Country Club and the Oklahoma City Wholesale Market.

The group is working on selling to businesses across the nation with a current list of over 65 businesses, setting up personalized shopping experiences in office buildings, spas, and hospitals. “This enables the employees to shop at their leisure during their lunch hour or after work”, says Stephanie. “We are also working on providing holiday gifts for businesses and corporations.”

CANDLES MADE FOR ROYALTY!

September 15, 2009

IMG_8133The latest candle to arrive at notting hill is a special one! Actually made for British Royalty!  The owner/creator worked for Estee Lauder and Proctor & Gamble.  While visiting an antique stall in Notting Hill London, he came across an old book that contained formulas for the 18th century British moncarchy.  With his knowledge  of the perfume industry, he quit his job and took 3 years to duplicate the formulas… and Royal Apothic was born!

When notting hill OKC started carrying Royal Apothic, It sold out in 3 days!  New shipments are now arriving every other week!  These candles work…and most importantly..THEY LAST…come get yours today and get the “smell” of how the royals lived in time past!

A little about notting hill . . . Inspired by English decor and the famed namesake area of Notting Hill this is an antique shop where you can bring the London look home. Notting Hill specializes in the English style of furniture; barley twist pieces, heavily carved dark wood hunt cabinets, as well as, vintage riding boots, and of course, items dealing with foxhunting. Owner Lee Ward has one rule; nothing is carried in the store that she wouldn’t have in her own home. Be warned; the merchandise changes over quickly and many items are one-of-a-kind making frequent visits highly recommended. Made in the United Kingdom is a look that’s rich in tradition, timeless and fitting for both Buckingham Palace and for my humble abode.

October 12, 2009

The motto at Cayman’s is Live Well – Dress Well – Shop Well. Nicely stated, I knew this was a place for me. Established in 1980, Cayman’s provides designer clothing, cosmetics, home decor, great jewelry, and select bath & body products. Though they pride themselvesin the quality of their merchandise, they believe a store is more than what it offers. The way it is offered is what truly matters. I couldn’t agree more and Cayman’s delivers in style, exceeding customer expectations and forming lasting relationships, in addition to carrying simply great merchandise. This is a shopping experience at its best from personalized service to style savvy employees. After going to Cayman’s, you’ll see a store really can have it all.

WEARABLE ART BY OKC FINEST

October 26, 2009

logo black

Beautiful jewelry is wearable art. Valerie Naifeh is obsessed with beautiful gemstones but not as much as her clients are. This Tulsa, Oklahoma native perfected her jewelry “chops” when she started her company in 1993 and today is a celebrated artist with international acclaim. She is well known for her discerning eye and skilled hand.  This effervescent designing diva carefully selects gemstones for her custom jewelry pieces and skillfully orchestrates their meticulous completion. Paintings don’t wear well but jewelry does. Clients become friends and vice versa Valerie’s 1500 square – foot showroom is located in Oklahoma City in Casady Square. The captivating showroom features the collections of other fine jewelry artists and notable companies.

Valerie also gives back to the community in a big way.  Monday, Oct. 26th, Valerie donated a Diamond, White Gold and Tahitian Pearl Pendant with a white gold chain, valued at $1,700.00 to the Cedarburg Square Tweetup to benefit The Children’s Home in Bethany to be raffled off. Thank you Valerie!

November 2, 2009

So many places, where to go?  Well, you didn’t think Nosey Parker worried about that did you?  She already knows.  Scoped it out, ate the scrumptious food, rated the customer service and there you have it.  Yes, there are lots of good restaurants in OKC Metro and Nosey Parker is not about “inclusiveness” or chain.  The restaurants we chose are wonderful locals who also offer the Nosey Parker Experience. Once you have your guidebook, just flash the card that is inside and they will instantly know who YOU are!  When you are out shopping gals, the MUST GO places are the following:

NORMAN: Fancy That!
DOWNTOWN OKC: Nonna’s, Sage Gourmet Cafe & Market and Iquana’s.
MIDTOWN: RococoCheever’s and Paseo Grill; prepared take home is Prairie Gypsies and Market C
NICHOLS HILLS: Loved three but none of them wanted to offer The Nosey Parker Experience.  Sorry. Maybe next time.
NORTH OKC: La Baquette (eat in & prepared take out)

IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR …

November 29, 2009

Making your kitchen experience a memorable one every time has become a daily goal of the Rappaport family in Nichols Hills.  When I was invited to check out Culinary Kitchen for lunch, I thought it was a cafe.  It was … sorta! Apparently on Saturdays the Rappaports prepare goodies for whoever wants to join in the food fest, testing out their specialty ovens that make our fast paced lives better by giving us ovens that prepare our food faster.  No need for nasty fast food when you can have homemade just as quick.  The selection of kitchen accessories could not be better.  You can’t help but touch and feel, ooh and aah while your belly is full.

FIND CULINARY KITCHEN!

The Rappaport’s must excel in creature comforts.  The scrumptious smells coming from Culinary Kitchen turn into touch and feel at their Designer Rugs store just up the road.  I haven’t seen this kind of selection anywhere lately, not even in Dallas.  I wanted to drop and roll in this store.  The gals at Designer Rugs bring in the best rugs and carpets and pillows from all over the world.  I could stay there all day just touching and salivating over how many places in my home I could use a new rug.  To be honest, a lot of them you could hang on the wall for art!

Staying “In The Know” – January

January 6, 2010

There are so many great stores in the Nosey Parker Guidebook that it is very hard to just focus on one or two at a time. Christmas is over, people are not shopping as much but you know, for that special trip, gift, girls day away or just to peek your interest … I will post a few items each day and if you have anything fab to say about any of the businesses I feature… go ahead… make their day!

GREAT OUTING … SHOWPLACE MARKET IN MOORE

June 28, 2010

Finally!  Something other than a franchise or cookie cutter national box store in Moore!  Yay! Wahoo! Yippee! Thanks to Jenny Campbell and her team who put together the Showplace Market.  Feel free to look through a few photos I took with my phone: Click ShowPlace Photos.

Jenny began working to transform the space inside an empty industrial building her family owned into Showplace Market, which now has 60 unique vendors, as well as a gourmet cafe stocked with food from local cafes and a book nook.  The booth spaces are filled and there’s a waiting list. I had a great time and Jenny treated me to a Frappucino.

Location: Get off 19th st in Moore off I-35, head east go underneath the railroad tracks and we are on your right at the corner.
